The law restricting the wearing of clothing that hides a person began to operate in the Netherlands on Thursday. According to NIAT "Khovar", MIA "Kazinform" reports with reference to the NL Times.
From now on, it is not allowed to wear clothing that completely hides the face in government buildings, educational institutions, health care facilities and public transport.
The ban applies to the burqa or niqab, as well as to motorcycle helmets and balaclavas, which completely hide the face. If a person refuses to open a person at the request of the law, he may be denied access to the specified public places, or fined 150 euros.
You can still wear such clothes on the street, but the police may ask you to open your face to identify you.
The first bill to ban the burqa was submitted to the Dutch parliament 14 years ago, but was not supported at the time, in part because of its discriminatory nature. The current law restricting the wearing of face-covering clothing was approved by the Dutch parliamentarians last June. Since then, a long discussion has followed on how this law will be applied.
