Mumin Kanoat

Mumin Kanoat was born on May 20, 1932 in the village of Kurgovad, Kalaykhumb district, in the family of a farmer.

His first poems were published in the Garm regional newspaper in the late 1940s.
In 1956 he graduated from the Department of Tajik Philology of the Faculty of History and Philology of the Tajik State University named after V.I. Lenin. He worked in the editorial office of the Sadoi Shark magazine, first as the head of the poetry department, and then as the executive secretary. For some time he was the senior editor of the Irfon publishing house. Since 1968 he was deputy chairman, and since 1976 - the first secretary of the Board of the Writers' Union of Tajikistan.
Mumin Kanoat was a deputy of the Council of Nationalities of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR X-XI convocations (1979-1989) from the Tajik SSR, a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Tajikistan, a secretary of the Board of the USSR Writers' Union, chairman of the Tajik Republican Peace Committee, a member of the Committee on Lenin and State Prizes of the USSR in the field literature, art and architecture, a member of the Soviet Committee for Solidarity of Asian and African Countries.
In 1977 Mumin Kanoatu was awarded the title of laureate of the USSR State Prize for the poems "Voices of Stalingrad" and "Mother's Face". Later, these poems were published in the library of works awarded the State Prizes of the USSR ("Voices of Stalingrad", publishing house "Soviet writer", M., 1979), in the publishing house "Irfon" (1979), in Frunze and Nukus (1980), translated into the languages of the peoples of the USSR. "Voices of Stalingrad" is a dramatic work about the immortal feat of the Soviet people who defended a fortress on the Volga. Monologues of the Earth, the River, the living and the dead, soldiers and mothers merge into a polyphonic requiem, a symphony in memory of those who in a fierce battle with the enemy laid down their heads for the triumph of life on Earth.
The artist also wrote “Waves of the Dnieper”, “Tajikistan is my name”, “The Cradle of Sino” and many other works that have become classics.
